Still Life

Still life featuring Earthly Desires series by Zarina Holmes
This project is inspired by Japanese Buddhist phrase “earthly desires are enlightenment”. Our worldly desires could cause us much suffering, yet the experience could teach us to be better people. In this series, I draped my personal jewellery collection around sumptuous seasonal fruits, confectionery and delightful objects that have sentimental meaning for me. Some belief systems view human desires as a corrupting influence to be rid of. For me, that’s like banning flowers from the trees or preventing birds from singing. Our desires could be transformed into a positive motivation to create a more abundant world. The shoot happened between my homes in UK and Malaysia.
